A world without checkouts: How checkout-free supermarkets are transforming London's grocery business

This was my first visit to Tesco's new checkout-free store: Tesco GetGo. The 2,000ft supermarket on a busy office street in High Holborn last week and although the aisles may look like any other Tesco store, stepping into it feels like a brave new world. To enter, customers tap through a tube-style barrier using a QR code in the Tesco app before collecting their groceries as usual. No baskets?I ask an assistant and quickly realize that mine question is silly. The whole point is, you don't need one: just fill your (free) brown paper bag with items, walk out, and within minutes (nine seconds in my case) of leaving the store, a receipt will appear on your Phone.
